Brown recognizes 13 milestone drivers

James Brown Contracting Inc., a short-haul carrier, inducted 13 new drivers into its “Million Mile Safe Driving” Driver Safety Hall of Fame. The list included John Eubanks, Henry Brown, Dewey Stells, Richard Vonderheide, Robert Bower, William Powell, Edward Kirby, Charles Teasley, Mack Welch, Edwin Davidson, Clyde Farr, George Purvis and Bernard Morrison. All 13 drivers clocked their million accident-free miles at Brown.


Marten breaks ground on Texas facility

Marten Transport began work in August on an $8.4 million, 35,000-square-foot facility located in Desoto, Texas, that will house eight bays, a driver lounge, restroom and shower facilities. Two of the bays will offer drive-through inspection lanes and indoor fueling. The facility is scheduled to be completed by January 2011 and will create more than 300 jobs, the company says, including positions for drivers, mechanics, dispatchers and administrative support.

Amherst, Wis.-based H.O. Wolding has added Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield health insurance coverage to its benefits package. The insurance coverage links employees with health-care providers nationwide in the Blue Cross and Blue Shield system. The provider will also offer programs to help employees improve health and manage healthcare costs.


Old Dominion opens two service centers

Old Dominion Freight Line, a national less-than-truckload carrier, recently opened two new service centers — a 44-door facility in Kalamazoo, Mich., and a 38-door facility in South Houston, Texas. The Kalamazoo location is southeast of the city center and near the city’s airport, and the South Houston center is near that city’s airport, also southeast of city center.
