Question on fender clearance

Q: How much fifth wheel clearance do I need to install rear half-fenders or full fenders on my truck? — Lance Tupper, Saint Louis

A: Our rule of thumb is with the air-suspension dumped (deflated) you need 4.5-5 inches of clearance from top of tire to bottom of trailer. If you have this amount of clearance, you should be able to accommodate fenders without needing to raise the fifth wheel slide assembly. — Bryan “Bossman” Martin, 4 State Trucks
