Aaron Bergeron is a Bigfoot hunter.
I consider myself a Bigfoot hunter, but only in the sense that if I ever see him, I’ll know exactly who he is. Also, I have a clause in my contract with Randall-Reilly that provides me with exclusive Bigfoot interview rights, should he ever decide to become mainstream and give interviews. My office has kind of a Bigfoot theme, as it often looks like great apes have nested in it, and the main focal point is a huge poster of a map laying out the key Bigfoot sighting areas.
In all seriousness, the Bigfoot phenomenon has hit epic proportions, with the reclusive and currently unofficial face being used to do everything from sell beef jerky to promote music festivals. Not everyone believes the creature exists, but pretty much everyone knows who he (or she) is.
Bergeron has been interested in Bigfoot almost his entire life. “I began studying this phenomenon as a teenager, reading every book our local library had. As an adult, the Internet was a Godsend that allowed me to devour information and data at a much greater rate. I started doing my own field research on a limited basis when time permitted in my immediate region.”
He eventually attended a BFRO – Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization – public expedition, where he became instantly hooked. He attended two expeditions before being accepted as a field researcher/investigator.
BFRO is the organization behind the popular Animal Planet television show “Finding Bigfoot.” The organization provides sightings and reports, and researchers and staff help organize on location when the show is filming within their designated regions. Not everyone enjoys the star treatment, or paychecks, the Animal Planet celebs get.
“Benefactors have purchased some of the equipment we utilize on expeditions,” says Bergeron. “Outside of that everyone is a volunteer and uses their own funds to purchase their own equipment, travel expenses and other peripherals needed to do what we do.”
Aaron says he got involved because of his insatiable appetite for all things Sasquatch-related. He’s currently a field researcher/investigator covering the eastern shore of Maryland and Virginia, and all of Delaware. He actively searches for Bigfoot, attending public and private BFRO expeditions held along the eastern U.S.
“I cannot learn enough about the subject, and the evidence to date has more than convinced me that this is a genuine undiscovered species,” he says.
Bergeron tells me he’s had more than one Bigfoot report from a trucker, which only makes sense, because who else is out at all hours of the day and night, traveling in remote areas? If you’ve seen something you’d like to report to BRFO, witnesses can submit sighting and reports to either the website or via email with the Sighting Report Form at [email protected]. The organization also has a sighting hotline at (408) 634-BFRO (2376).
