Rival companies joined forces for a convoy across thawing lakes and deteriorating roads in the latest episode of the History Channel’s “Ice Road Truckers,” writes Overdrive sister site Truckers News Editor David Hollis in his weekly recap.

Darrell Ward and Lisa Kelly were called on by former employer and rival Mark Kohaykewych to assist Todd Dewey and Steph Custance with a lot of freight that needed to be moved over an ice road that had already been closed for a week.

Ward led the four-truck convoy with Kohaykewych riding shotgun, which made for an interesting dynamic. Custance had to be pulled out of the snow by Dewey after she drove off the road while checking mirrors and attempting to be cautious.

As the episode drew to a close, Ward’s cab began to fill with smoke and Kohaykewych bailed out. The final episode of the series’ 10th season will air this Thursday to show the rest of this scenario.

Also during the most recent episode, Alex Debogorski took a longer route in hopes of it being a safer route, and Art Burke decided to take the shorter route to the same Ontario First Nation village, which included a four-mile trek across a frozen lake that he broke through last season.

Hollis’ full recap of the episode can be seen here. The season’s final episode will air Thursday, Oct. 6 at 10 p.m. Eastern on the History Channel.
