Overdrive and Senior Editor Todd Dills have been named finalists in the prestigious Jesse H. Neal business editorial awards program. This is the fifth straight year Overdrive and Dills have been named Neal finalists.
This year, Overdrive and Dills are finalists for the Best Series award, and Dills is a finalist for the Best Range of Work by a Single Author award.
The nod in the Best Series category stems from the first 10 parts of Dills’ ongoing E-Log Shift series, which has covered a variety of aspects of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s electronic logging device mandate. The rule has been among the most maligned, protested and in some ways misunderstood in small-business trucking’s history, and the series aimed to explore its nuts and bolts to offer readers wide-ranging perspective on the various significant positive and negative changes it could ultimately bring.
The Best Range of Work category honors a single writer-editor for excellence across a variety of editorial formats. In addition to his work on the E-Log Shift series, the category nomination recognizes Dills’ work on the business-topics-focused Overdrive Radio podcast, his Channel 19 blog, custom rigs and owner-operator-profile videos and data-driven journalism with the long-ongoing CSA’s Data Trail feature series.
Dills has won several Neal awards in recent years for in-depth reporting on CSA, including the Grand Neal — the top overall achievement awarded by Connectiv, who produces the Neal awards each year.
Connectiv, a business publishing and data association, will announce all Neal winners in late March in New York City.
