Two South Dakota rest areas – one along I-29 near Wilmot and one on I-29 near Vermillion – will be closed until early 2019 for reconstruction projects.

The South Dakota Department of Transportation says the Wilmot rest area, at exit 213 off of I-29, will be closed for the reconstruction of the rest area and the addition of a new tourism welcome center. Officials expect the new rest area and welcome center to be open by February 2019.

The Vermillion rest area, at exit 26 off of I-29, will be closed for the reconstruction of the existing rest area and welcome center. Officials expect the renovated rest area and welcome center to reopen by April 2019.
