Transmission issue prompts recall of nearly 2,000 Kenworth, Peterbilt tractors
Affected tractors are equipped with an automated Eaton UltraShift Plus or Eaton Advantage Transmission with right hand stalk shifter. In the affected trucks, the display on the instrument panel can indicate “N” when the shifter is set into “D” or “R,” causing the truck not to move.

Kenworth, Peterbilt recall trucks with certain Eaton, Paccar transmissions; Wabash, Walker recall trailers
More than 1,200 Kenworth and Peterbilt tractors are being recalled following the announcement last week of a recall from Eaton Cummins of certain automated manual transmissions. Additionally, Walker and Wabash are recalling approximately 75 trailers in separate recalls.

The transmission is ideal for applications up to 110,000 pounds gross vehicle weight. The Paccar MX-13 engine is available with up to 510 horsepower and 1,850 lb.-ft. of torque.

The recall issued by Paccar includes approximately 17,737 model year 2016 Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks in most models, along with approximately 1,175 model year 2016 International tractors in most models.

Paccar is recalling approximately 5,731 trucks because the optional spotlight circuit on the affected trucks “may not be adequately protected in the event of a short,” increasing the risk of fire at the fuse block.

The trucks must be certified by a Kenworth dealer technician after a full inspection, carry DOT certification and receive a full diesel particulate filter cleaning and an oil and filter change before being listed as certified pre-owned.
