More than 1,200 Kenworth and Peterbilt tractors are being recalled following the announcement last week of a recall from Eaton Cummins of certain automated manual transmissions. Additionally, Walker and Wabash are recalling approximately 75 trailers in separate recalls.
According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration documents, Paccar is recalling approximately 1,222 model year 2018 Kenworth T680 and T800 and Peterbilt 567 and 579 tractors equipped with certain Eaton Endurant and Paccar automated manual transmissions.
The transmission control module in these trucks could allow the engine to crank while in gear, allowing the truck to move upon cranking.
Paccar will notify owners beginning Feb. 16, and dealers will update the TCM software for free. Owners can contact Peterbilt customer service at 1-940-591-4000 or Kenworth customer service at 1-425-828-5000 with recall numbers 1217F and 1717KWF. NHTSA’s recall number is 17V-840.
Wabash National also announced it is recalling approximately 58 truck body box trailers because of a missing weld on the vertical leg support, which could increase the risk of injury in the event of a rear-end collision.
Wabash will notify owners beginning Feb. 13, and dealers will inspect the vertical leg support and weld if necessary. Owners can contact Wabash at 1-765-771-5300 with recall number B18001. NHTSA’s recall number is 17V-832.
Finally, Walker Stainless Equipment Company, a subsidiary of Wabash, is recalling approximately 15 tanker trailers equipped with MPA/MTA suspensions and Meritor EX225 brakes. The brake caliper bolts on these axles may not be properly torqued, according to NHTSA documents, which could cause the caliper to detach. This could cause a loss of braking.
Walker began notifying owners on Jan. 5, and dealers will inspect the bolts, replacing any loose or missing ones. Owners can contact Walker at 1-800-356-5734 with recall numbers W-6430 and W-6431. NHTSA’s recall number is 17V-833.
