The board of the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association will hold a vote in April to choose the association’s next president and CEO, OOIDA has said in a statement. The deliberation and vote, planned for the board’s spring meetings to be held April 24-28, is in accordance with OOIDA’s bylaws, the group says.

Association Executive Vice President Todd Spencer has assumed the role of acting president and CEO in the meantime, following the death of Jim Johnston, who had headed the association since 1974.

Johnston died January 8, following a year-long battle with lung cancer. He was part of a group of independent truckers who founded OOIDA in 1973.
