Patricia Gonzales and other staff from the Port of Brownsville, Texas, handed out hundreds of insulated lunch bags with snacks and other items to drivers as a sign of their gratitude during Trucker Appreciation Week.As National Truck Driver Appreciation Week rolls on through Saturday, Sept. 16, more companies are acknowledging truckers and offering deals on certain services.
123Loadboard is handing out 2,000 annual subscriptions to its load board, and its factoring partner Thunder Funding is waiving all fees to fund and factor the first load for new accounts, up to $1.2 million total. 123Loadboard subscriptions normally run between $35 and $55 per month, depending on the package.
SmartDrive Systems, who provides driver coaching and analytics through in-cab video and other systems, is acknowledging the “most improved” truckers in its database. The scoring is based on speeding, seat belt usage, distracted driving and more. The “most improved” drivers, according to SmartDrive’s database, are:

Acuity Insurance held an essay contest for children 12 and under with family members in the trucking industry. The contest had the children answer the question, “What is special about my family member’s job as a truck driver?”
Dalton Clahan of Clay City, Ind., won first prize with his essay, earning a $500 Visa gift card.
Second prize and $250 gift cards went to Trevor Saine of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Jack Kraemer of Keil, Wis.
Bailey Joe Shoemaker of Brandenburg, Ky.; Elyssa Patzer of Cheyenne, Wyo.; Cady Saine of Fort Wayne, Ind.; Kyle Jarzemski of DeSoto, Wis.; and Jillion Jo McIntire of Birmingham, Iowa placed third for a $100 gift card.
Fourth prize and a $25 gift card went to Weston See of Montgomery City, Mo., Lillian Pfeifer of Mazon, Ill, and Nicole Gage of Medina, Ohio. A video of the winners can be seen below.
