From knee-high in a Kenworth to oversized hauls

Like many of Overdrive‘s readers, Doug Beutler learned how to steer an 18-wheeler and back it while he sat next to his dad in the cab of a truck, watching him make all the right motions. Many of you, like Beutler, started a lifelong love affair with trucking when you were 10 or so, took hold of the steering wheel yourself, changed gears and felt the power of a ’78 Kenworth W900A, or other memorable rig, underneath you.

Read about Beutler’s experience as an owner-operator based in St. George, Utah, in his first-person commentary at OverdriveRetro, under the Readers Remember section. Photos accompanying his story show some of the farm equipment and timber homes he’s hauled over the years.
