One of the industry’s best giveaways is cranking up: the awarding of a new International tractor to the TCA Owner-Operator of the Year. The contest is sponsored by the Truckload Carriers Association and Overdrive.
The top three finalists will get many other valuable prizes from other industry partners, usually cash, gift cards, accessories and services. But it’s difficult to top winning a new truck, courtesy of International Truck and Engine and many leading component makers.
We’ve had excellent winners over the years. The current one, Charles Maly, had 2.3 million miles and amazing loyalty: 25 years with one company, Shaffer Trucking. Maly received his International 9000i in August at the Great American Trucking Show.
Applying is easy. TCA’s online application is linked from eTrucker.com. If no one is nominating you, don’t be shy – you can do it yourself. The deadline, still being established at press time, will be soon, so don’t delay.
To be eligible, applicants must have driven 1 million consecutive miles accident-free and must be leased to a TCA member fleet. They are judged on industry honors and their ability to run a successful business.
This will be a particularly good year to make it to the final three. Because they’re invited to the TCA Annual Convention, March 1-4, those lucky finalists will be spending four late-winter days basking in the rays at the exotic Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. You can’t beat that for driver appreciation!
