For a second straight week, the national average retail price of diesel fell the week ended Sept. 19, dropping 2.9 cents to $3.833 a gallon, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration.
Average prices were down in all regions, led by the Midwest where the average price fell 4.2 cents to $3.799. Prices slipped less than a penny a gallon on the West Coast, California and New England.
With the latest price dip, the national average price is 87.3 cents higher than a year ago. The record diesel price was $4.764 in July 2008.
