The Teamsters union has re-elected General President Jim Hoffa against two challengers by a 60 percent margin.
Union members also approved Hoffa’s slate of running mates, including General Secretary-Treasurer Ken Hall, according to the Office of the Election Supervisor’s final tabulations.
Hoffa received 137,172 votes, which was 83,024 more votes than contender Fred Gegare, a Teamsters vice president.
Hoffa has held office for nearly 13 years and will begin his next five–year term in March. His longevity as general president has only been outranked by Dan Tobin’s 47-year term and his late father, James R. Hoffa, who led for 14 years before his disappearance in 1975. He was later declared legally dead.
Hoffa also worked as a Detroit labor lawyer for 25 years.
