Energy department pegs diesel at $3.85 in 2012

The U.S. Energy Department forecast diesel fuel will average $3.85 a gallon next year, matching the average they predicted for this year.

The energy department forecast crude oil will average $102 a barrel next year, up $1 from the 2011 prediction. Oil consumption is expected to increase 5 percent next year from this year, according to the agency.
