CARB deadline March 30

The California Air Resources Board reminded truck fleet owners the deadline for reporting under the Truck and Bus Regulation is March 30.

The extension gives owners of three or fewer trucks more time to comply with the regulation, also known as the “retrofit rule.” Owners of 1996 to 1999 MY trucks are urged to report their compliance plans by March 30, CARB said.

Compliance would involve installing the first particulate matter filter by Jan. 1, 2014, and filters for the other vehicles a year apart or sooner. The small fleet regulation doesn’t apply to drayage trucks.

The extension from Jan. 31 did not extend the particulate matter filter and other compliance requirements that began Jan. 1. To avoid potential enforcement action, CARB advised fleets that had not met these requirements to bring the fleet into compliance as soon as possible.
