DOT issues safety alert on transporting fireworks

As the nation prepares to celebrate the Fourth of July, the U.S. Department of Transportation is working on many fronts to help prevent unnecessary accidents and fatalities due to the unsafe transport of fireworks.

Now through July 8, the department’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) will conduct a nationwide roadside inspection sweep to ensure that commercial motor vehicles transporting fireworks categorized as Class 1 Explosives are operating in full compliance with federal and state safety standards.
