Peterbilt 579 gets SmartWay designation

Peterbilt announced its new 579 model has received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay designation. The model meets the program’s established set of fuel-saving, low-emission equipment specifications for new Class 8 long-haul tractors and trailers. The model features an aerodynamic styling, a new interior, vehicle system enhancements like optimal an chassis system to reduce noise and vibration and integrated powertrain configurations.

FMCSA stops short of saying 2020 HOS changes caused more crashes

The number of post-crash inspections with an out-of-service HOS violation increased significantly after the 2020 hours changes compared to a pre-change period, but FMCSA said other external factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic, weighed heavily on results.
