Dear Carolyn,

I am still laughing about NYC Mayor Bloomberg’s misguided ban on over-sized sodas. I think you would agree with me that it’s a boneheaded attempt to legislate common sense!

What do you think? I’m about to go buy an extra large soda just because I can!

Dear Gina,

I do agree with you. We all know that you can’t outlaw stupid. If someone wants to drink 2,000 calories worth of soda; that’s their decision. I always suggest substituting water for soda even if you are not trying to lose weight. It’s the easiest way to eliminate calories, sugar and sodium without a lot of fuss. But the key word here is “suggest,” not legislate. The answer is not to drink more soda in protest but to ignore the fray and drink water for the health of it.
