XrsXata Corporation, makers of the Xata Turnpike RouteTracker electronic onboard recorder, today announced the company is changing its name to XRS Corporation and introducing a new mobile-centric platform of the same name for compliance and efficiency solutions.

The announcements came today, Aug. 13, during the Xata User Event (XUE) in Minneapolis. The new name, which stands for Xata Road Science, is effective immediately.

One of the biggest technological innovations of the past 30 years was the Internet, noted Xata Chairman and CEO Jay Coughlan in his event-opening presentation, “a very complex network” with “a complex entry point, the personal computer.”

Finally, with the profusion of mobile devices offering a simplified version of that complex entry point, trucking stands able to finally take advantage of the Internet for the compliance and efficiency benefits it can offer, he added. “Our mission here is to lead this mobile revolution.”

The new XRS platform will offer owner-operators an affordable solution should the Congressional mandate for EOBRs ultimately come to fruition, noted Xata marketing vice president Christian Schenk. What’s more, he added, “we’ve got standard productivity applications with a mobility component, the ability to send messages to drivers [via their smartphones] and people who work within our four walls.” Capturing and calculating data around trips will be effectively automated for business performance analysis, automated IFTA reporting, and more.

The new company expects to be listed on the NASDAQ Capital Market under the new symbol “XRSC” as early as August 14, 2012.

XRS will run on more than 50 types of mobile devices to automatically transmit vehicle and operator data directly to a management dashboard. Nearly 90 percent of drivers already have mobile devices in use, meaning there are minimal hardware costs associated with XRS. XRS Corporation has partnership agreements with the leading brands in mobile communications in both the U.S. and Canada.
