Webasto’s fuel-fired heaters for cold-weather idle reduction will now be marketed with emissions control products from the ESW Group, a leading diesel-particulate-filter systems maker. The integration between two technologies, the companies say, will give fleets and municipalities the opportunity to obtain DERA (Diesel Emission Reduction Act) funding for the equipment.
Webasto National Sales Manager Kurt Van Portfliet summed up the advantages of the partnership by saying the “synergy that is realized from combining the two technologies creates a truly green vehicle. We are addressing overall emissions to create mission readiness while the vehicle is moving through its normal duty cycle.”
The EPA awards funding for diesel emission reduction projects through competitive grants that are reviewed by the National Clean Diesel Funding Assistance Program. The grants fund state-administered projects that reduce emissions from existing diesel engines through various strategies, including emission control and idle reduction technologies.
Through the Webasto/ESW partnership, the heater and DPF will be marketed and promoted together through hundreds of aftermarket outlets across the nation, including truck dealerships. While there will not be a cost benefit or discount associated with buying the two technologies together rather than separately, if the end user qualifies for DERA funding, the grant can cover 100 percent of the two technologies when installed together.
Also, with reduced idling, the end user will benefit from reduced maintenance of the DPF, the companies say, including longer intervals between regular preventive maintenance and fewer regenerations on 2007 and newer applications.
In 2013, Webasto will conducting 36 separate Idle Reduction Seminars around the country to support fleets large and small. They will include presentations and in-depth discussions on the latest idle reduction/emission reduction technology, how it can benefit your fleet and how you can apply for DERA funding.
