Shelly York, driving for ABF Freight System, of Fort Smith, Ark., noticed something fall off the back of a pickup truck while driving through North Little Rock, Ark., on April 5. A moment later, he was startled to discover what was lying in the road.

In this illustrated story in Overdrive’s Knight of the Road series, York recounts his response to the incident that earned him a Highway Angel award from the Truckload Carriers Association.

FMCSA stops short of saying 2020 HOS changes caused more crashes

The number of post-crash inspections with an out-of-service HOS violation increased significantly after the 2020 hours changes compared to a pre-change period, but FMCSA said other external factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic, weighed heavily on results.
