Con-way Freight, an Ann Arbor, Mich.-based less-than-truckload company, announced that Larry Painter, a 30-year company veteran, became its sixth professional driver to achieve three million consecutive accident-free miles.

Con-way Freight’s three-million-mile club also includes previous honorees James “Jackpot” Sutfin of Las Vegas, Nev.; Tom Syme of Palatine, Ill.; Tom Strissel of Mundelein, Ill.; David Frazier of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and Doug Phelps of Clearfield, Pa. All continue to drive for the company today.

“I think I speak for all of us when I say safety is the most important part of the job,” said Painter of Fresno, Calif. “Our success as professionals is not about records and personal achievements. It’s about the attitude we bring to work every day, all the little things we do to stay safe because of the responsibility we have operating an 80,000-pound vehicle. By putting safety first, we help make sure everyone we share the road with arrives home safely every day.”
