Truckload Carriers Association President Brad Bentley presented the Clare C. Casey Award and its trademark burgundy jacket recognizing exceptional safety leadership to Dean Newell, safety vice president with North Little Rock, Ark.-based Maverick Transportation.

Since 1990, the Casey award, named after a past longtime member of the TCA Safety Council, has been given to the safety professional of the year who best “exemplifies what this industry is all about,” Bentley said, a commitment to best facilitating on-time, safe deliveries.

Newell began his career in trucking with Maverick as an over-the-road driver, then working in recruiting, training and safety before being promoted to his current position, also at the head of Maverick’s training initiatives, in the year 2000. Also presented with the award were a ring and a crystal plaque and truck, sponsored variously by Creative Concepts and Great West Casualty.
