Shell adds more coolant products to recall

Rotella Ultra ELC 50-50 Pre-dilutedShell has added additional 50/50 pre-diluted coolant products to the coolant return program that began in March due to a lack of bitterant in the coolant.

The company wants all batches of the following products returned by beginning the claim process at this link.

Here are all the products being recalled:

•ShellZone DEX-COOL Extended Life 50/50 Pre-diluted Antifreeze/Engine Coolant in 55-gallon drums and one-gallon bottles produced before April 8, 2016
•Specific batches of Shell Rotella ELC Nitrite-Free 50/50 Pre-diluted Antifreeze/Engine Coolant in 275-gallon totes, 55-gallon drums and one-gallon bottles. Batch information can be found here.
•Shell Rotella ELC 50/50 Pre-diluted Antifreeze/Engine Coolant in 275-gallon totes (Batch No. 2877558U063), 55-gallon drums (Batch No. 2877558U063) and 1-gallon bottles (Batch No. 2877558U063 and #INDT 2660908)
•Shell Rotella Ultra ELC 50/50 Pre-diluted Antifreeze/Engine Coolant in 55-gallon drums and 1-gallon bottles (all batches produced before March 16, 2016).
•Shell Rotella Ultra ELC Antifreeze/Coolant Concentrate in 55-gallon drums (Batch No. B2811293U063)

The recall began because these batches were undertreated with bitterant, an additive used to render the product unpalatable. If any of these products are already installed in a cooling system, Shell says they do not need to be drained or replaced because the lack of bitterant has no impact on product performance. But the company still asks unused products to be returned.
