Interstate 10 west of downtown Phoenix will be closed this weekend as Arizona Department of Transportation crews work to reconstruct ramps as part of the construction of a new freeway in the area.
Eastbound I-10 will close between 59th and 43rd avenues from 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, to 5 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 11. The eastbound I-10 on-ramps will also be closed at 75th, 67th and 59th avenues.
To avoid delays on the interstate, ADOT suggests taking the Loop 101 west of I-17, or exiting I-10 sooner and taking local streets to go around the closure. A detour will lead drivers to exit at 59th Avenue and take either Van Buren Street or McDowell Road before returning to I-10 at 43rd Avenue.
In order to build the new freeway, Loop 202, several I-10 ramps will be removed and reconstructed to tie into a wider I-10 that will include ramps to and from the new freeway when it opens in late 2019.
