XPO Logistics truck driver Steve Ramage, 59, was driving along I-55 in North Litchfield, Illinois, the morning of Oct. 18 when he came upon a two-vehicle accident.

A pickup truck involved in the accident was on fire with the driver trapped inside. Ramage jumped into action and, with the help of another motorist, broke the pickup truck window with a fire extinguisher and pulled the driver to safety.

Ramage administered CPR to the pickup driver until emergency personnel arrived and took over. The driver survived the accident and is recovering.

Ramage, from Illinois, has driven for XPO Logistics for 10 years. He works in the LTL division.

“It was a very gratifying experience to be able to help a person in a time of need. I hope it might inspire others to help in a similar time of need as well,” Ramage said about the experience.
