I-84 exit numbers set to change in New York

If you frequent I-84 in New York between Pennsylvania and Connecticut, be prepared for changes to the interstate’s exit numbers next year.

The New York State Department of Transportation has said it will change the exit numbers to be mileage-based rather than the current consecutive numbering system.

The exit numbers will be based on the distance from the Pennsylvania state line to the exit. The New York State Thruway, for example, will become exit 36 instead of exit 7, as the I-87 interchange is 36 miles east of the Pennsylvania state line.

The project is expected to begin in the spring of 2019 and be completed by the end of the 2019 construction season.
