I-10 Eastbound west of Phoenix closed this weekend for construction

Truckers heading eastbound through the Phoenix area this weekend should plan ahead for closures of I-10 between Friday night and Monday morning.

Arizona Department of Transportation says crews will close I-10 EB between 67th and 35th avenues beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18. The endpoint of the closure is expected to be reduced from 35th Avenue to 43rd Avenue at approximately noon on Saturday, Jan. 19. The entire closure will be lifted by 4 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21.

ADOT says drivers should plan to use alternate routes, including Loop 101 west of I-17, to get around the closure.

The agency says this weekend’s closure is the first of a number of closures over the next few months in the area as crews work in the area. The work is part of an ongoing project to build the South Mountain Freeway, which is expected to open as early as late this year.
