The tech-enabled brokerage Convoy says it is now matching 95 percent of loads it facilitates “without human intervention” — in other words, shippers and carriers in 95 percent of cases are connecting for loads via the Convoy app and web-based platform without direct assistance from Convoy personnel during the transaction.
In the Convoy platform, via its mobile application, as in other similar apps from other brokers, owner-operators registered with the broker can book a load at the tap of a finger.
Convoy has been tracking carrier availability and pricing since the company’s founding to help indicate its progress with a goal of automation of both. For matching, the company has largely eliminated the call-intensive model for finding the right truck across Convoy’s national network. For pricing, the majority of loads are now also being handled without any human interaction. For a traditional broker, about 65 percent of expenses go toward employee and “each rep makes roughly 100 calls in order to book 10 loads,” Convoy notes, sourcing DAT Solutions.
Convoy’s efforts to eliminate a substantial amount of such expense, the company believes, have allowed it to both reduce costs for shippers and improve earnings for carriers, all the while investing in new innovations.
