Last ride for Maine log hauler ‘Mackie,’ R.I.P.
The Central Maine Morning-Sentinel news site reported late last week on the Skowhegan memorial-service convoy that was reportedly “one last ride” for area log-hauler Maxell C. “Mackie” Moore. Around 20 trucks joined the ride, including Mackie’s own, piloted by Tim Clements, best friend to Moore’s youngest son, Matt, who now operates the rig he and his father bought together. Court rules on Louisiana truckstop tiger permit
The latest wrinkle in the long-ongoing saga of the residence of a tiger, Tony, at the Tiger Truck Stop in Gross Tete, La., is a Baton Rouge court’s Friday grant of a permanent injuntion against the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ renewal of the truck stop’s owner’s permit when it expires in December. Barring an appeal by the truck stop’s owner, Michael Sandlin, the victory for the Animal Legal Defense Fund could turn out to be a big one, resulting potentially in a new home for the tiger, which animal-rights groups have sought now for years. Thankfully, news of the court settlement came without egregious examples of the borderline industry-villification tactics that ALDF supporters have trafficked in in past.
