A couple great vids to share today, folks. The first comes from an owner-operator born in 1934 who’s been driving a truck for 63 years. “I’ve heard there’s two guys out here who are as old as I am, but they haven’t been out here as long as I have,” owner-operator/singer-songwriter R.C. Barnes (pictured) told me Tuesday.
Today leased to G&W Hauling & Rigging out of Cleveland with a 1998 Kenworth T2000, he’s also got a somewhat new music video out that, if you haven’t seen it, is well worth a view/listen. The song, “Old Glory,” is a patriotic anthem of the “Love it or leave it” variety, with Barnes and company (including an awesome fiddle player with Opry connections that could bring Barnes to the Nashville stage in the near future) laying down the track expertly. Give a go below.
Or pick up a copy of Barnes’ “It’s not the end of the road… Yet” record here.
The second tune is one by a performer who’ll be taking the stage Saturday at the Memphis Trucking Expo. Jesse Watson is a Tennessee native, and his “Chicken Lights and Chrome” tune is an on-highway romp, ladies and gents. A video put together by some of his fans among you is below. For more from Watson, go here to check out several available vids.
Also at the Memphis show, honky-tonk country performer Nancy Apple will be on hand. Find out more about her here.
And for owner-operators thinking of entering their trucks into the beauty show there, organizers note there’s a $30 entry fee. Space is still available as of this morning. Call (800) 320-8926 for details on entering the 2011 “Showoff Truck Showcase.” Nice name, I do say…
Those vids follow — great songs, both.
