Harvey Brodsky, managing director of the Retread Tire Association, sent out a message especially for truckers this past week, one of his regular dispatches on the subject of the benefits of — and debunking the myths about — retread tires.
“Those of you who have been reading my articles over the years know that some readers have called me the preacher,” he began, “because I constantly preach the importance of learning as much as you can about how to take care of your tires.”
Tires “are the third largest expense in operating a truck,” after fuel and, well, yourself if you’re an owner-operator, the driver if you’re running a small fleet. “It doesn’t matter if we’re talking about a fleet of one truck or one thousand trucks.”
Whether haulers use retreads or not, Brodsky notes, there’s one way to cut costs that’s often overlooked. “Read on, friends,” he says, a message I can get behind.
Brodsky’s planning a revamp of the RTA’s website to create a section “dedicated to articles we believe all truckers should read” viz a viz tire maintenance and other related issues, he notes. Keep abreast of it via www.retreadtire.org or contact the RTA via [email protected] or 831-646-5269 to subscribe to their newsletters.
And if you’ve got some time today for some backgrounders on our latest coverage of tire maintenance, here are some links from features over the last several years related to the topic (below), and you can download the tire-related chapter in our annual Partners in Business manual (2013 edition) via this link.
