The trucking industry is full of military veterans and patriotic citizens that put their pride in the military on full display through graphics on their rigs.
With Veterans Day being this Monday, Nov. 11, here’s a look at some military- and patriotic-themed trucks to thank those who have served in the United States military.
First up is Chuck Timbrook’s BlackOut 1999 Freightliner veterans tribute and memorial truck. The truck has been featured several times in Overdrive, including the latest update a couple weeks ago by Senior Editor Todd Dills in podcast form. The latest additions to the truck include a Remembrance Cross on the bobtail’s decking, custom airbrushing of symbolic scenes on the tanks and more.
Next up is Ed Harwell’s “Service and Sacrifice” 1988 Freightliner FLT that was on display at August’s Great American Trucking Show in Dallas. Another truck that has been updated since it was first featured in Overdrive, the cabover has recently seen upgrades to the fifth wheel, fenders, a front T-bar and a new filler panel between the tanks and stainless saddle covers. He has also updated the interior with a variety of stainless on the dash and more.
Missouri-based fleet CFI runs some patriotic truck wraps, which it calls “True to the Troops.” CFI President Greg Orr says the military-themed commemorative wraps recognize military veteran employees for their service to the country and the values of safety, reliability and superior service they demonstrate as drivers.
Owner-operator Sean McEndree built his Purple Heart-themed 2006 Peterbilt 379 with the help of DB Kustom Trucks.
Another heavily military-themed truck is John Cudd’s 1986 Peterbilt 359 that honors the Delta Raiders whom he served with in Vietnam. Cudd said in 2013 he “wanted the truck to be a tribute to the guys I served with.” A video and photos of the truck can be seen below.
