Ohio-based owner-operator Kit Spanfellner runs leased to Bradner, Ohio, small fleet Davidson Trucking, pulling mostly dry van freight for the last couple years. That follows, though, decades in heavy and oversize platform pulling for a variety of outfits, and back problems that for a time left him partially paralyzed one dramatic day, a story you’ll hear him tell in the video above.
This 2015 Kenworth T680 is the second truck he’s owned, following a few-years-older T660 whose maintenance issues kept him from the 2018 edition of “That’s a Big 10-4 on D.C.” on the National Mall in Washington, which he’d hoped to attend with Daniel Davidson, his leasing fleet’s owner.
This year with the Cummins X15-powered T680, though, he made it, bobtailing at better than 12 mpg along with two Davidson Trucking-owned trucks.
In the video, you’ll hear more about his history trucking, the Acemco APU he uses, and his return to the fleet that gave him his second trucking job as a company driver decades ago. (Yes, turns out Spanfellner’s known Davidson since he was a child as a friend of the family.) A few stills from my time with Spanfellner and his Kenworth follow, too.
