Warren Hartman, the owner of Forrest, Illinois-based Hartman Trucking, bought the 2018 Peterbilt 389 in the video above as a glider kit with a plain white paint scheme.
The rig was on display at the PKY Truck Beauty Championship at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville in March. It picked up several awards including first place in Working Interior Cab Only, second place in Working Bobtail and third place in Working Bobtail Lights.
Hartman said he always wanted an older truck but never could find exactly what he was looking for, so he decided to buy a glider and give it the old-school features he wants.
His goal with the truck was to give it an old-school look and feel with some modern touches. The name of the truck, “Touch of Class from the Past,” is a nod to the older-style Peterbilt modifications he made to the rig.
Among the throwback features on the truck are door-mounted mirrors, a three-piece grille and a unique take on Peterbilt’s old boomerang paint scheme. Inside the truck is a 359-style dash, a straight-up shifter and more. The flooring is African teak wood.
Under the hood is a Cat 3406E backed by an 18-speed transmission. The rig sits on a 292-inch wheelbase.
