Marathon Brake Systems recently introduced new products for heavy-duty trucks -- brake shoes, lined brake shoes and brake shoe kits.
Marathon’s new brake shoes are manufactured and tested to the highest OEM standards, the company said. They feature an electro-deposition coating (E-coating) to prevent rust jacking. All Marathon brake shoes are environmentally tested to withstand 1,000 hours of salt spray testing, which the company said is the standard of other OEMs.
The shoes also are made from high grade carbon steel, which adheres to tightly controlled specifications, ensuring weld strength and performance. Marathon added that it heat-treats the shoes to harden the steel and prevent wear like distortion and mushrooming, common on relined shoes. This can often result in slippage and cause excessive lining wear, shortening the life of the brake shoe.
Marathon also introduced lined shoes and wheel end kits, which the company said are riveted and assembled in Marathon’s Cartersville, Georgia, warehouse. The hardware kits contain stainless steel bushings, heat treated and zinc-chromate coated rollers, and powder-coated springs, designed to be rust resistant and improve the dependability of brakes.
The kits feature heavy-duty springs tested to 1 million cycles that are certified to 125 lb.-ft. resistance.
