The New York Department of Transportation has lifted its ban on empty tractor-trailers and tandems interstates within the state, but the ban remains in effect for the New York State Thruway from Exit 31 to Exit 45.

The ban was implemented Feb. 24 as wind gusts of up to 70-75 miles per hour were forecast to sweep through western New York while wind gusts of 40-50 miles per hour were expected throughout the rest of the state. The state’s DOT placed a ban on empty tractor-trailers and tandems on portions of the Thruway and some interstate highways in the western New York, Central New York and Finger Lakes regions.
