Trucking news and briefs for Monday, April 27, 2020: 

Five Michigan rest areas temporarily closing
The Michigan Department of Transportation is closing five welcome center facilities for the next two weeks due to maintenance staff layoffs. The closed locations are: Sault Ste. Marie, Monroe, Coldwater, New Buffalo and Detroit.

MDOT says the ramps and parking lots will be closed as well due to security and sanitary concerns, with the exception of the Detroit Welcome Center, which has a shared parking lot.

Most of the state’s 63 other rest areas remain open.

Two new TA Express locations open in Oregon, Georgia
TravelCenters of America opened new TA Express locations in Wasco, Oregon, and West Point, Georgia.

The Oregon location is along I-84 at exit 104 and offers 40 truck parking spaces, showers, laundry facilities, and Pizza Hut and Krispy Krunchy Chicken restaurants.

The Georgia location, at exit 6 off of I-85, offers 25 truck parking spaces, a Champs Chicken restaurant, showers and laundry facilities.

Love’s opens new truck stops in Illinois, Michigan
Two new Love’s Travel Stops are now open in Sauget, Illinois, and Watertown Township, Michigan.

The Sauget store, located off of I-255, adds 85 truck parking spaces; Chester’s Chicken, Godfather’s Pizza and Subway restaurants; nine diesel bays, seven showers, laundry facilities and more.

The Watertown Township store, located off I-69/96, offers 116 truck parking spaces; Hardee’s and Subway restaurants; seven diesel lanes; nine showers; an on-site Speedco; laundry facilities and more.
