L Lawler 21Nashville singer/songwriter Lindsay Lawler will perform at the lighting ceremony of the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree in Washington, D.C., Tuesday, Dec. 4.

Lawler, who is also the spokesperson for the Truckload Carriers Association’s Highway Angel program, will perform her latest single, “Standing Tall,” the official song of the 2012 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree.

Lawler earned the honor to perform the song, which she co-wrote with Chris Roberts and Greg Bieck, when “Standing Tall” was selected as the winner of Sing4TheTrees, a national songwriting contest searching for the official song of the 2012 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree.

Chuck Leavell, keyboardist for The Allman Brothers Band and a long-time touring member for The Rolling Stones, was among the judges who picked Lawler’s work from among more than 300 original song submissions. In addition to “Standing Tall,” 11 other finalists are featured on a Sing4TheTrees compilation CD, with all proceeds from sales going toward restoring forests impacted by wildfires in Colorado this past summer.

“I’m so excited to be able to take part in this event,” Lawler said, adding it’s her first trip to Washington, D.C., and the event falls on her birthday. Lawler, who among her many original songs penned “Highway Angel” to promote the program of the same name that salutes truckers doing heroic acts, plans to visit TCA’s headquarters while in the nation’s capital.

The U.S. Capitol Christmas tree was hauled from Colorado to Washington, D.C., with the help of sponsors including Mack Trucks, which, as the official transporter of the tree, donated a customized a Mack Pinnacle tractor with holiday graphics for the project. Randall-Reilly, publisher of Overdrive magazine, is also a sponsor of the 2012 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree.
