Mayor Chuck Shaheen of Warner Robins, Ga., whose city council in February approved a two-hour parking limitation for heavy trucks in city limits, is urging truckers who can to take part in a city council meeting Monday, March 4, where he will urge adoption of a 12-hour compromise parking time limit.

Shaheen, meanwhile, says he’s made progress on finding an alternative parking solution on Georgia State Highway 247 near the Warner Robins Air Force base. Shaheen has met with landowners interested in donating land, as well as with the Georgia Department of Transportation and city engineers.

“We’re going to have to put a turning lane in, re-zone it, and pave it,” Shaheen says. “My expectations are not too high right now, but we’re moving in the right direction. We’re taking it one step at a time. If we hit a roadblock, we’ll try to handle it and move on. Everything so far has been positive. Keep praying, and we’ll keep moving forward.”

In light of the amount of time it will take to get a lot implemented, the Mayor seeks the compromise 12-hour parking ordinance.  “What I need is about 25 truckers to show up at the meeting and talk to us,” he says. “The pre-council meeting is at 4 p.m., I’d like to get them in there so they can speak.”
