Will Baltimore ban truck parking in residential areas?

A bill under consideration by the Baltimore City Council would prohibit commercial vehicles from parking in residential areas for longer than one hour at a time.

The bill, which is up for final passage, says commercial vehicles with a maximum gross vehicle weight of greater than 20,000 pounds are prohibited from parking “continuously on any street, lane, or alley in front of or adjacent to any property used or intended to be used as a residence” for longer than an hour. The prohibition does not apply to trucks “parked for the purpose of doing any public or private work for or on behalf of any person located within a radius of [one] block from the property.”

Additionally, the bill would ban any truck from parking for any length of time between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. on any city street, lane, or alley.

Under terms of the bill, commercial trucks with a GVWR greater than 20,000 pounds would be subject to a $500 fine for violations of either the daytime or nighttime parking restrictions. Non-commercial vehicles weighing more than 20,000 pounds and commercial vehicles under that weight would be subject to a $250 fine for a daytime hours violation, and $75 for a nighttime hours violation.

The legislation stands to exacerbate already negative attitudes amongst owner-operators with respect to the region's truck parking availability. While Baltimore itself wasn't singled out among worst metros for parking, the state of Maryland overall got a dishonorable mention for parking availability from Overdrive readers in the 2025 Truckers' Highway Report Card.

Electric vehicle charging hub developer EV Realty this week opened its flagship multi-fleet truck charging hub in San Bernardino, California.

The new hub features 76 high-power charging ports and 9 MW of capacity, sufficient to serve more than 200 medium- and heavy-duty trucks per day, the company said. The site is designed to reliably serve all makes and models of electric trucks with both Combined Charing System (CCS) charging ports that are standard today and Megawatt Charging System (MCS) charging ports for next-generation rigs.

By serving multiple fleets on shared infrastructure, EV Realty's Powered Properties model delivers better economics for a wide variety of fleet users, the company added. Announced customers include J.B. Hunt Transport, Gate City Beverage, and Nevoya.

The site is strategically located near the San Bernardino Intermodal Facility, more than 60 million square feet of nearby industrial warehouses, in an area that is home to nearly 17,000 medium- and heavy-duty trucks, EV Realty noted. It also sits near Interstates 10 and 215, a major freight lane from the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.

“The Inland Empire is where freight from the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach gets sorted and sent across the country by truck and rail,” said EV Realty CEO Patrick Sullivan. “Fleets operating here are doing some of the most important and demanding work in the supply chain. They need reliable and affordable access to high-power charging so that they can move beyond pilots and make electrification a real business decision. That's exactly what we've built here."

Mack launches virtual owner’s manual

Mack Trucks has launched its new Mack Digital Driver Guide, an enhanced virtual owner's manual that gives drivers instant access to complete, chassis-specific vehicle information on features and operations.

Available now online and through the all-new Mack Trucks Driver Guide mobile app, the Mack Digital Driver Guide delivers a modern, intuitive experience for drivers navigating the full capabilities of their Mack truck, the company said.

The guide is available in English, Spanish and Canadian French, and will launch supporting the Mack Pioneer and all-new Mack Anthem. Additional models will be added as they enter production. Mack export models are also included, with access available in export markets.

Drivers can enter the last six digits of their VIN to generate a guide customized to their specific chassis configuration. The experience is organized across five sections – Complete Guide, Driving Tips, Visual Navigation, Get Started and Videos – providing resources that range from detailed operational documentation to short-form training content.

“Today's drivers expect the information they need to be available when and where they need it, not buried in a paper manual in the glovebox,” said David Galbraith, Mack Trucks vice president, global brand and marketing. “The Mack Digital Driver Guide puts complete, truck-specific knowledge at a driver's fingertips.”

The Complete Guide provides comprehensive vehicle operational information and includes a keyword search function, enabling drivers to quickly locate information on topics such as braking systems, emission controls, infotainment, maintenance and emergency procedures. The Visual Navigation feature uses interactive imagery of the truck's interior and exterior to help drivers identify systems and components by location. The Videos section includes model-specific driver training content covering topics such as adaptive cruise control, mDRIVE, electronic parking brake operation and pre-trip inspection.

In addition to web and mobile access, an in-cab version of the Mack Digital Driver Guide will also be integrated with the vehicle's infotainment display in late Q3 2026. Trucks assembled prior to that time will receive the update over-the-air.

The Mack Digital Driver Guide is accessible online and through the all-new Mack Trucks Driver Guide app for iOS and Android.
