A look back: Top combos from 2019 Pride & Polish

The 2019 Overdrive‘s Pride & Polish competition featured 52 standout rigs competing in a variety of categories.

Looking back at the show, Overdrive is taking a look at the winners from each category.

Up this week is the Combo (Open) category. The Open category is a combination of both working and limited mileage combo trucks. Photos below are all by Jason Kindig.

First place: Eric Turner Sr., of Ellenwood, Georgia, with his 2015 Peterbilt 389 and 2018 Wally Mo car hauler, “Showtime.” In addition to first place in Combo (Open), Turner also won Best of Show in Working Combo, first place in Engine, first place in Paint (Combo), third place in Interior (OEM Sleeper) and Truckers Choice.

Second place: Queen City, Missouri-based Tony Huttenstine’s 2010 Kenworth W900L and 2017 Extreme conestoga. The truck also earned second place in Interior (Cab Only) and second place in Paint (Combo).

Third place: Carl Wilson and Anel Becirevic, of Rowlett, Texas, and their 2019 Peterbilt 389 and 2018 Vanguard van, “Big Yellow.”

For his recent move back to running with his authority, the 2023 Polar fuel-haul, four-hole, 9,500-gal. trailer is his most recent purchase, likely his last for quite a time.

Having learned lessons the hard way (early struggles in a lease-purchase, later with too-quick growth as a small fleet owner), for owner-op Karr the last very-big years have set him up well for his current chapter, hauling fuel as a one-truck independent.
