Overdrive and Pride & Polish will feature ongoing coverage in 2020 of the truck beauty contest’s 30th anniversary.Overdrive‘s Pride & Polish show truck competition started 30 years ago at the Mid-America Trucking Show in 1990. Other truck beauty shows have emerged since then, but Pride & Polish holds its reputation as the gold standard of custom heavy-duty truck contests.
To celebrate this milestone year, Overdrive will review some of the best rigs to compete at Pride & Polish.
The trucks and customization styles have changed over those three decades, as have venues for the contest. One constant, though, has been the Pride & Polish presence at the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas, which began in 1999. The 2020 competition will be held Aug. 27-29 at GATS.
“Over the last 30 years, Pride & Polish has created a community of show truck competitors and their families,” said Tom Winters, director of event operations for Pride & Polish parent company Randall-Reilly. “While people have come to Pride & Polish to compete against the best of the best show truck builders, they keep coming back for the relationships they’ve built over the years with the other competitors.”
