If you enjoy getting an up-close look at classic iron, the American Truck Historical Society's National Convention & Truck Show is where you want to be.
The show officially kicked off Thursday at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds in Springfield, Missouri, and no matter your favorite make, model or vintage, you're almost guaranteed to find it among the hundreds of trucks parked up here.
You'll find restored beauties retired from the road, working antiques, custom-built units for travel and plenty more.
Here's a look at just a handful of the rigs we caught yesterday. Keep tuned for more in the coming weeks, no doubt.
Every truck comes with a history of its own, of course. This 1993 Kenworth W900, today owned by Geary Buchanan out of Fort Wayne, Indiana, was previously owned by owner-operator Mike Barnes, who’s showing the rig in Springfield. Barnes leased the rig to Buchanan Hauling & Rigging for many years.
This 1969 Peterbilt 358, owned by Casey Field, took 10 years to build into the immaculate showpiece it is today.
This custom 1982 Freightliner FLG was built by Jim Miller into a rolling home away from home, outfitted with a queen size bed, two couches, and all manner of creature comforts.
Jim and Alice Sercombe own this 1975 Dodge Big Horn, powered by a 400 Big Cam Cummins.
A 1963 vintage Kenworth 921, owned by ATHS Treasurer Craig Vogel.
ATHS Chairman Marty Glomb, whose 1955 Kenworth we featured back in 2018, recently finished the restoration of this 1979 W900A, "Penny."
This 1987 Ford LTL9000 is owned by Tom and Theresa Sercombe.
The Mahan Collection Foundation in New Jersey brought this 1964 Mack B87 to the convention.
