Ice cream hauler's 'Smokey and the Bandit' tribute '24 W900L

Dale Ricks' 2024 Kenworth W900L

This 2024 Kenworth W900L is the sixth truck owned by owner-operator Dale Ricks, but it's his first Kenworth. All his previous trucks, including this 2021 389 featured in Overdrive's Reader Rigs gallery in 2020, have been Peterbilts. Ricks said he always customizes his trucks to make them show quality, and this one is no different. Outfitted with Kenworth's Studio Sleeper, the truck also features air ride on the steer axle so it will sit low to the ground when he's parked, adding a "cool factor," he said.

Ricks also added glass watermelon lights with LEDs, front to back and underneath, he said. "It really glows at night -- all amber lights every where but rear bumper, of course." The rig, powered by a 565-hp Cummins X15 with an 18-speed and 3.36 rears, is Ricks' version of the iconic "Smokey and the Bandit" Kenworth. Ricks calls his '24 W9 "Cletus."

Ricks, a 42-year veteran of the highway, hauls ice cream for Wells Dairy. Most of his runs are from the Wells plant in Le Mars, Iowa, to the Wells plant in Las Vegas and back.
