Connecticut governor proposes trucks-only tolls plan with Rhode Island tolls lawsuit still unresolved
In a letter to state legislative leaders of both parties, Gov. Ned Lamont calls for trucks-only tolls on 12 bridges along major thoroughfares in the state. Rates would vary by location, but truckers could be charged between $6.40 and $19.20 at each of the 12 toll locations.

The newly-elected governor campaigned on a trucks-only toll similar to what is in place in Rhode Island, but in his op-ed noted ongoing legal challenges. Lamont added in the piece that he has learned tolling just trucks would provide some revenue, but “not enough to upgrade” the state’s infrastructure.

Trucking groups plan to fight Connecticut governor-elect’s trucks tolling plan
Democrat Ned Lamont, who was elected as the state’s next governor last week, said during his campaign he intends to propose trucks-only tolls in the state to curb what is projected to be a multi-billion-dollar budget deficit by 2021. However, the state’s trucking association, with backing from the American Trucking Associations, says it intends to fight any trucks-only tolls.

Seven Connecticut rest areas with more than 200 truck parking spots on chopping block
Connecticut DOT spokesman Kevin Nursick said his department conducted a study several years ago that revealed a truck parking deficit of 1,200 spaces each night. The seven rest areas under threat of closure offer truckers a total of 222 parking spaces that could be lost.

Connecticut guv calls for closure of seven rest areas
Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy in his biennial budget proposal cuts funding for the state’s seven traditional rest areas to save the state $1.1 million over a two-year period. The proposal, if passed by the state’s legislature, calls for the closure of the seven locations by July 1, 2017.
