Highway deaths dropped in 2018, but numbers are estimated to remain above 40K for another year. Statistics were provided by the National Safety Council.

Highway fatalities dipped slightly in 2017, preliminary numbers show
National Safety Council numbers do not include specific crash data, such as how many of the highway deaths were as a result of a truck-involved accident. In sum, 40,100 deaths occurred last year, according to the NSC.
