Two groups representing Sikh truckers and Punjabi truckers are petitioning the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration for a delay in complying with the electronic logging device mandate for members who haul agricultural products, as well as small business trucker members.

CVSA ELD inspection bulletin, updates to older AOBRD bulletin
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has added an inspection bulletin outlining officer and driver responsibilities during inspections of hours of service when the driver is using an electronic logging device, among other bulletin updates.

Truck renting group seeks ELD exemption for all of 2018
The Truck Renting and Leasing Association has been granted a 90-day exemption through April 19 from the ELD mandate. It has also announced it has filed a petition for an exemption to last through the end of the year.

Tow truck drivers, small seasonal fleet file for ELD exemptions
The Towing and Recovery Association of America requested a five-year exemption from the mandate for tow truck drivers. STC Inc., a 75-truck seasonal propane-hauling fleet, also requested an exemption from ELDs.

Trash haulers, oil rig group and others ask FMCSA for ELD exemption
Trash hauling and recycling fleet American Disposal Services, oilfield service fleet Cudd Energy Services, the Agricultural Retailers Association and the Association of Energy Service Companies have each petitioned FMCSA for ELD exemptions for five years.

Short-term rental trucks land a short-term ELD exemption
TRALA requested in March a more permanent exemption from ELD use for short-term rental trucks. In October, FMCSA granted an ongoing exemption for rental trucks used for eight days or fewer, rather than 30 days. Rentals fewer than 30 days now get until mid-March to comply with the mandate.
