Art director’s pen had a knack for poking fun

Overdrive’s Channel 19, the department for wacky and weird humor, is heir to a long-established knack for poking fun at issues, trials and tribulations truckers faced. One of those early satirists, whom you can read about on OverdriveRetro, was the magazine’s art director, Paul Goeppner.

From 1966-1984, he inspired reader captions in the onetime popular “Clutch-a-Caption” department with his original line drawings, had a regular comic strip in the magazine and illustrated hundreds of stories and full-page house ads. Pictures of his cartoons and illustrations accompany the feature on Goeppner at Overdrive’s website commemorating its 50 years of publication.
